Black frill ankle boots from Miss Selfridge

miss_selfridge_frill.jpgThese shapely shoeboots are close to boot perfection as you can get, to my mind, so the addition of the pretty frill edging has really tipped me over the edge in my admiration for them.

The fabric is black suede, which is a definite look to go for this winter, and the boots' gentle slopes and points lend them that ever so fashionable neo-Victorian look, too. Pictured alone, they look more like ankle boots, but they come low enough on the leg to work well as shoes, and look great over tights. £45 at Miss Selfridge

Melissa t-bar wedges from Topshop

Take a close look at the shoes you see before you. Nice, aren't they? Everything from the curved wedge heels to the little peep toe and the shiny black patent... but wait. That's not actually patent, is it? No, it's vinyl. And that's the point where I stop in my tracks and find myself wondering if I really like them after all.

These are by Melissa, who are well known for their quirky, plastic and vinyl shoes (and for their recent collaboration with Vivienne Westwood, no less). I love the shape of these by the vinyl puts me off, a little, and would probably prevent me paying £50 for them. If you would. though, you can get them at Topshop.

Miu Miu's sequined 'Perla' peep toe pumps

miu-miu-sequins.jpgAre you sick of sequins yet? No? Well, that's a good thing, because we're not even done with November yet, and already we've seen more pairs of sequined shoes than you could shake a stick at, although why you would want to is beyond me.

These ones are by Miu Miu, who are back to doing what they do best, producing glitzy, show-stoppers of shoes, often with lots of sequins plastered all over them. The sequins on these shoes are multicoloured and have something of a "slapdash" look to them, which isn't a word I'd normally use to describe $950 shoes.

Wonderful winter shoes by newcomer Rae Jones

rae jones collection.jpgEvery so often, a shoe designer emerges from the shadows with so many exciting ideas you find yourself in a complete dilemma over which style to buy first.

That's certainly true of new designer Rae Jones, which is what led me to gave up on the idea of featuring just one of her shoes and decided to treat you instead to a selection from her Autumn/Winter range instead. I love the playful use of textures and winter colours here, and her attention to detail is really promising. Definitely a name to watch.

Nicole Kidman's limited edition Salvatore Ferragamo 'Australia' shoes - in store now

Corso Como's white 'Dodie' ankle boots with bow

corso-como-dodi.jpgI have no doubt that if I were to wear these Corso Como ankle boots, I'd end up looking a bit like Minnie Mouse, with giant, clumpy feet, but even although I know that would be the case, there's still something drawing me to them all the same. I'm guessing it's probably the bow, which is certainly very cute, but probably not big enough to make up for the chunkiness of the wedge heel and uppers. These might just work better in a darker colour, but I'd have to pass on them in this one. If you want to snap them up, though, they're $94 from Amazon.
